Letters to My Grandson: Julien’s Mother

Letters to My Grandson: Julien’s Mother

Dear Julien,

You are fortunate. You have a mother and dad who love you. In this crazy world, that is nothing to be taken for granted. By the time you read this letter, you will have had the opportunity to be frustrated with both of your parents. No worries. That is quite normal.

There are a few things you need to know about your mother. Your mother is exceptionally bright. She has a sharp intellect that will help you in untold ways. And she is also creative. You are blessed with great genes in that regard!

I remember being a new parent. I was nervous. I had no experience with babies!  When you were 3 weeks old, I watched your mother interact with you in complete confidence. Infants have no concept of structure, but your mother had things as structured as you possibly can during that stage of parenting. I was impressed. She was doing better than I did as a new parent!

Julien, your mother is a confident woman. She is not the type of person to be pushed around or plowed over. I admire such self-assurance. That probably means you are going to clash with your mom one of these days. But keep in mind, she will speak up on your behalf. She will be one of your biggest advocates in addition to being a great mom.

Your mother has always been very good to your dad’s younger brother. That speaks well for her character.  She has paved the way for you to enjoy both of your uncles on your dad’s side of the family.  I can say with confidence that you will enjoy them immensely.

You are so fortunate. You are enveloped by a family who loves you.
